Frequently asked questions
How do I download a GIF from Twitter or X?
Open the tweet that has the GIF, tap Share and Copy link, then paste the link into the box above and press Download. We return the original media file. Twitter actually serves GIFs as silent MP4 videos for performance, so the download will usually be an MP4 you can keep or convert to a real animated GIF.
Why is the downloaded GIF actually an MP4?
Because Twitter and X internally serve GIFs as MP4 video to save bandwidth. The MP4 plays exactly like the GIF you saw, but as a video file. To get a true animated GIF, save the MP4 then convert it with any free tool (ezgif.com, CapCut, Photopea).
Does it work with both twitter.com and x.com links?
Yes. Twitter rebranded to X but both domains still serve the same content. Mobile links from the X app also work.
Can I also download videos and photos from tweets?
Yes. Paste any tweet URL and we return whatever media it contains, video, GIF (as MP4), or photo. For full video downloads with audio, our standalone Twitter Video Downloader is a better starting page.
Do I need to log in to Twitter or X?
No. Public tweets do not require login. We only support public tweets, never private or protected accounts.
Is the tool free?
Yes, free with unlimited downloads, no signup, no subscription. Supported by ads.
