How to Download Pinterest Idea Pin Video (HD MP4, 2026 Guide)

Pinterest Idea Pins (sometimes called Pinterest Video, formerly Story Pins) are Pinterest's answer to TikTok and Instagram Reels. They are multi-page short-form video posts that can have up to twenty pages, each up to sixty seconds. Pinterest pushes them hard in the feed, and they often contain genuinely useful content (recipes broken into steps, DIY tutorials, fitness routines). The frustrating part: Pinterest deliberately does not let you download them to your phone. The in-app Save button only adds the pin to a board, it does not give you the file. What is a Pinterest Idea Pin exactly?

Idea Pins launched in 2021 as a TikTok-style competitor for Pinterest. Each Idea Pin is a multi-page post where each page can be:

A still image.

In late 2023 Pinterest started phasing the "Idea Pin" branding and now calls them simply Pinterest Video in newer interfaces. The underlying format is identical, just renamed.

Why Pinterest hides the download

Pinterest's business model depends on you using the Pinterest app or site to view content. Every download is a person who can re-watch your saved video without opening Pinterest, which means one less impression for advertisers. So Pinterest never built a download button. The Save button you see only saves to a Pinterest board on Pinterest's own servers, never to your phone.
